Debbie Alexander has over thirty years’ experience in the transportation industry in the field of marketing, market research, strategic planning, information technology systems, grants management, compliance, project management, labor negotiations, and transportation planning. Debbie has worked for three transit systems (Ann Arbor, Michigan, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Lansing, Michigan) and as a strategic marketing and market research consultant across the US and in Europe.
Debbie is very involved with transportation issues nationally as an active member of the American Public Transportation Association and National Transit Research Board serving on several committees and task forces throughout the years. She has also served was chair and as a member to many national research projects.
Since 2009 Debbie has been the project director for the Michigan/Grand River Avenues Transportation Study to study the best approach to maximizing capacity for all modes in this critical regional corridor. In 2011, the CATA Board of Directors with support from City of Lansing, City of East Lansing, Lansing Township, Meridian Township, Michigan Department of Transportation, and Tri County Regional Planning Commission, approved Bus Rapid Transit as the locally preferred alternative. In 2012 CATA was admitted into the Federal Small Starts Funding program and was approved to begin Project Development beginning with environmental clearance. Debbie has a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University in Education and a Master’s Degree in the Science of Management and Leadership. Debbie is very happily married to her husband of 35 years and they have a tremendous 28 year old son who resides in Denver, Colorado.
