Andy has served on the Ethics and Elections, Michigan Competitiveness, Commerce and Trade, Education and Regulatory Reform committees. He was an Assistant Floor Leader and Chair of the Capitol Caucus - a group of mid-Michigan legislators who advocate on issues affecting the region. Andy was also named to the House Democrats' Education Task Force and the House Education's Common Core Subcommittee. Schor was also the lead Democrat on the legislation that created the Healthy Michigan program, which has brought health care to 600,000 Michigan residents. He also authored several amendments, including one to save the city of Lansing almost a million dollars. Schor has also been very active in working on policies to address our heroin and prescription drug abuse crisis. Gov. Rick Snyder appointed Andy to his Task Force on Prescription Drug and Opioid Abuse and, after significant research and extensive conversations with experts, they released their recommendations on Oct. 26, 2015.Before coming to the House, Andy served for 10 years as an Ingham Country Commissioner. Before that, Andy worked for State Senator Gary Peters (now U.S. Senator Peters) for five years and for state Representative Paul Condino for two years. He also served in Gov. Jennifer Granholm's administration.
Andy's community involvement includes being a founding member of the Ingham County Land Bank and serving as a Board Member of the Tri-County Office on Aging and the South Lansing Community Development Association. Through his involvement with the Smartzone Board, he has helped create opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses, spurring job growth in the region. Andy has volunteered time with the Sycamore Park Neighborhood Watch and was an active participant in the Forest View, Old Everett, and Clifford Park Neighborhood Associations during his time as an Ingham County Commissioner. Andy is active with the Greater Lansing Food Bank's Annual Empty Plate Dinner planning committee, and serves as an honorary co-chair for Lansing's Juneteenth Celebration. He also sits on the Advisory Board for Families Against Narcotics.
Andy and his wife, Erin Schor, have lived in Lansing for 17 years. Their children, Ryan and Hannah, attend school in the Lansing Public Schools. Andy graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with Bachelor of Arts degrees in political science and in history.
